“Harmontown” Trailer — SXSW Documentary on ‘Community’ Creator Dan Harmon’s Popular Podcast Show

When acclaimed comedic writer/TV showrunner Dan Harmon was notoriously fired from his own NBC show "Community," he found himself with a lot of free time on his hands. He chose to fill that time by performing a weekly, recorded live podcast called Harmontown, which was essentially devised to vent his frustrations and anger -- and also to get outrageously drunk on a nightly basis.

In the new feature-length documentary, which will screen this weekend at SXSW, cameras follow the self-destructive comedian as he takes a year-long podcast tour across America. Also, both Harmon and his comic friends talk openly about his personal demons and jerky behavior, which likely contributed to his 2011 firing -- although, he was eventually rehired for Community's latest fifth season.

"Harmontown" makes its world premiere this Saturday at the Austin-based film festival. Watch the film's promo trailer, above.

HARMONTOWN is a documentary film starring TV writer and producer Dan Harmon (NBC's Community, Adult Swim's Rick and Morty) as he takes his popular podcast of the same name on a calamitous cross-country tour. Much more than a comedy-tour documentary, the film directed by Neil Berkeley uncovers Harmon's public persona to reveal his complex character and his equally complex personal relationships.
