Bruce Wayne and Catwoman Cast in Fox’s ‘Gotham’

Young Master Wayne and Selina Kyle, AKA Catwoman, have been chosen for Fox’s Batman prequel, Gotham.

David Mazouz will play the tragedy-stricken Bruce, shortly after the murder of his parents and now under the care of Alfred Pennyworth (Sean Pertwee). Mazouz is best known for his role in Fox’s short-lived, ASCAP Award-winning sci-fi series Touch alongside Keifer Sutherland and Danny Glover. That show managed two seasons before being cancelled.

Portraying pre-Catwoman Selina will be Camren Bicondova, a relative newcomer to Hollywood, whose major claim to fame is being a runner-up on MTV’s America’s Best Dance Crew with her group, 8 Flavahs. She has also appeared in small roles in the horror flick Girlhouse and Cinedigm’s dance drama Battlefield America. Bicondova’s role as Selina will be as another orphaned teenager, well on her way to master thief as an expert pickpocket living on the streets of Gotham.

With the casting of both Mizouz and Bicondova, Fox has shored up its major casting duties, with all major players in this version of the DC Universe attached to names. Ben McKenzie (Southland, The O.C.) is Detective James Gordon, Jada Pinkett Smith is crime boss and nightclub owner Fish Mooney, Robin Lord picks up duties as pre-Penguin Oswald Cobblepot, Sarah Paxton (The Innkeepers, Shark Night 3D) will play Bette Kane, who will either become Batgirl or prospectively Flamebird, depending on how they work with canon. Sons of Anarchy and CBGB star Donal Logue will portray morally ambiguous detective Harvey Bullock, and UK actress Erin Richards rounds things out as Gordon’s fiancée, and prospectively future ex, Barbara Kean.

Gotham puts Jim Gordon center stage, telling his origin story, painting the picture that leads to Gordon becoming Batman’s most trusted man of the law in a corrupt Gotham PD. Along the way we’re introduced to the men and women who will eventually become Batman’s greatest foes. The WB pilot is being written and executive produced by Bruno Heller, best known for his writing/producing duties on HBO’s highly successful Rome, and CBS crime-drama The Mentalist.

Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly, when speaking of the upcoming series, said, ”This is not one of the things where you bought a franchise and then none of the characters people know. We will follow Bruce Wayne right up until the point where he gets interesting. It’s Gotham teetering on the edge. This is all of the classic Batman characters. This is the Batman franchise just backing it up. It gives a real focus as to what this show is about and what stories we’re telling.”

Gotham has no network drop date as of yet, but per the usual, we’ll keep you informed.
