“The Retrieval” Trailer — Acclaimed Slavery-era Drama starring rising actor Tishuan Scott

source:   theretrieval.com, trailers.apple.com, youtube.com

added: Fri, Feb 28th '14

Writer-director Chris Eska's acclaimed Civil War-era drama, "The Retrieval," has won a handful of festival awards last year, including 2013 SXSW's Breakthrough Performance for Tishuan Scott, who stars as an ex-runaway slave-turned-Union gravedigger tricked into traveling back to the South by a young slave boy (Ashton Sanders) who is secretly working under the orders of a ruthless white bounty hunter (Bill Oberst Jr).

It's the first leading role for Scott, and his standout performance will likely serve as a great calling card for other projects -- and not to mention the work of filmmaker Chris Eska, who has only written and directed one other feature film (2007's August Evening) prior to this one. Check out their critically-lauded handiwork in the newly-released trailer for the slow-burning indie, which is hitting theaters this spring, on April 2nd.

synopsis:
On the outskirts of the Civil War, a boy is sent by a bounty hunter gang to retrieve a wanted freedman and bring him back to the South, but as they begin to form an unexpected bond, the boy must face a gut-wrenching decision.

directed by   Chris Eska

starring   Tishuan Scott, Ashton Sanders, Keston John, Bill Oberst Jr., Christine Horn

“Beneath The Harvest Sky” Trailer — Acclaimed Indie Drama starring Emory Cohen, Callan McAuliffe and Aidan Gillen

source:   tribecafilm.com, trailers.apple.com, youtube.com

added: Tue, Mar 4th '14

Inner-city kids aren't the only ones affected by lost dreams and drug-related crimes. It's something that husband-and-wife filmmaking team Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly know all too well, as evident in the theatrical trailer for their indie drama "Beneath The Harvest Sky." Using their roots as documentary filmmakers, the duo wrote and directed their first ever narrative feature that takes an uncompromising, bleak snapshot of small-town life.

Set in a small border town in northern Maine, the critically-acclaimed indie follows two aimless teenagers: the trouble-making Casper (played by "The Place Beyond the Pines" star Emory Cohen) and the level-headed Dominic (Great Gatsby's Callan McAuliffe). Both feeling trapped in their soul-crushing, potato-farming community, the two friends plan a future farewell trip to Boston. Those plans, however, are put on hold when Casper starts to get involved in his father's illegal prescription drug business, which ultimately leads into a situation where their friendship is tested to its limits.

"Game of Thrones" star Aidan Gillen plays Casper's two-bit drug-dealing father. While Zoe Levin, Sarah Sutherland, David Denman, Timm Sharp and Michael McGrady round out the cast.

"Beneath The Harvest Sky," which premiered at TIFF last year, will be available on iTunes/VOD starting next month on April 15th and will also open in theaters on May 2nd.

synopsis:
Casper (Emory Cohen) and Dominic (Callan McAuliffe) have been fiercely loyal friends since childhood. Desperate for a way out of their quiet town on the Maine-Canada border, the boys make a pact to pool their earnings on a car and hit the road. But when Casper is drawn into drug smuggling with his outlaw father (Aidan Gillen) to pay his share, their friendship is pushed to the brink and adult choices forced on them all too soon.

directed by   Aron Gaudet, Gita Pullapilly

starring   Emory Cohen, Callan McAuliffe, Aidan Gillen, Zoe Levin, Sarah Sutherland, David Denman, Timm Sharp and Michael McGrady

release date   April 15, 2014 (iTunes/VOD), May 2, 2014 (In Theaters)

“A Touch of Sin” International Trailer — Acclaimed Chinese Drama from Maverick Filmmaker Jia Zhangke

source:   youtube.com

added: Thu, Feb 27th '14

Despite landing on a couple of critics' top-ten lists last year, "A Touch of Sin," Chinese filmmaker Jia Zhangke's ultra-violent, highly-stylized, cinematic interpretation of contemporary China's newfound capitalism and materialism, pretty much went unnoticed when it opened in the States last October. Though a lack of interest may have been due in part to a weak US marketing campaign -- something that the UK distributor is clearly rectifying as they just released a gripping new international trailer that will surely captivate viewers, even those who don't consider themselves as foreign-arthouse enthusiasts.

Loosely based on four separate Chinese news articles concerning a disgruntled coal miner, a trigger-happy motorcyclist, a scorned receptionist and a fired factory worker, "A Touch of Sin" loosely links these vignettes as a way to dramatized the self-destructive side of China's new, modernized society spawned by the country's recent economic boom.

Though slated to open in the UK on May 16th, American moviegoers will have another chance to catch "A Touch of Sin" when it arrives on Blu-Ray and DVD on April 8th.

synopsis:
An angry miner revolts against the corruption of his village leaders. A migrant worker at home for the New Year discovers the infinite possibilities a firearm can offer. A pretty receptionist at a sauna is pushed to the limit when a rich client assaults her. A young factory worker goes from job to job trying to improve his lot in life.

Four people, four different provinces. A reflection on contemporary China: that of an economic giant slowly being eroded by violence.

directed by   Jia Zhangke

starring   Zhao Tao, Jiang Wu, Wang Baoqiang, Luo Lanshan

release date   April 8, 2014 (Blu-Ray/DVD)

“Rush” TV Spots — Ron Howard’s Formula One Racing Drama starring Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Bruhl

Though there will be no talking snails in this racing movie, you can definitely expect plenty of trash talking between Formula 1 race car champions James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki "The Rat" Lauda (Daniel Bruhl) in director Ron Howard's latest effort "Rush," which you can now check out a couple of brand-new TV spots.

Howard has reunited with "Frost/Nixon" scribe Peter Morgan to tell the true story of two legendary drivers who lit up the raceways throughout the 70's. And oh boy, they couldn't have been more different: British champion James Hunt was a natural-born speedster, living the good life as a hotshot playboy who loved fast cars and faster women, while his Austrian racing rival Niki Lauda studied tracks, worked on engines and improved his racing skills to become the best of the best.

"Rush" is scheduled to open in select theaters starting on September 20th, before expanding wide on September 27th.

synopsis:
The epic action-drama stars Chris Hemsworth as the charismatic Englishman James Hunt and Daniel Bruhl as the disciplined Austrian perfectionist Niki Lauda, whose clashes on the Grand Prix racetrack epitomized the contrast between these two extraordinary characters, a distinction reflected in their private lives. Set against the sexy and glamorous golden age of Formula 1 racing, Rush portrays the exhilarating true story of two of the greatest rivals the world has ever witnessed -- handsome English playboy Hunt and his methodical, brilliant opponent, Lauda. Taking us into their personal lives on and off the track, Rush follows the two drivers as they push themselves to the breaking point of physical and psychological endurance, where there is no shortcut to victory and no margin for error. If you make one mistake, you die.

directed by   Ron Howard

starring   Chris Hemsworth, Daniel Bruhl, Olivia Wilde, Natalie Dormer, Alexandra Maria Lara, Christian McKay

release date   September 20, 2013 (Select Theaters), September 27, 2013 (Expands Wide)
